Introduction
Comprehensive Paedodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry dedicated to the oral health and well-being of children, from infancy through adolescence. This field emphasizes a holistic approach to managing the unique dental needs of young patients, addressing everything from preventive care to advanced restorative techniques. In a comprehensive paedodontics program, dental professionals learn to tailor treatment plans that prioritize child-friendly approaches, ensuring comfort and trust during procedures. The focus extends to educating parents about maintaining their children’s oral health and preventing common issues like cavities and malocclusion. With the knowledge gained through comprehensive paedodontics, practitioners can deliver high-quality care that fosters a lifetime of healthy smiles while building positive dental experiences.
The course is designed to cater specifically to the needs of participants, enabling them to understand and value the significance of managing the evolving dentition. It offers a comprehensive exploration of the assessment process for children, encompassing dental status, soft tissue evaluation and habit analysis, Since handling pediatric patients presents distinct Challenges, dentists may find it Challenging to deliver optimal treatments or their preferred dental materials. The primary objective of this course is to empower participants with the expertise and practical know—how to develop a well-rounded approach that considers all relevant factors influencing treatment decisions.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The participants of this course will be able to:
- Comprehensively assess the paediatric dental patient and be able to identify the treatment needs and suitable approach to tackle their dental problems.
- Provide adequate support in terms of patient education and intervene with appropriate preventive techniques.
- Choose the right material and technique for managing dental caries and pulp pathology
- Plan the long-term management of primary and mixed dentition to minimize developing malocclusion

Associate Prof. Dr. Annapurny
Dr. Annapurny graduated from University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in 2002. She completed her Clinical Masters In Paediatric Dentistry in 2010 and also obtained a Membership Of Faculty Of Dental Surgery, England in 2008.
She is a trained clinical hypnotherapist and obtained her Diploma in Hypnotherapy from London College Of Clinical Hypnosis in 2015. She has recently completed a PGDip in the field of Health Economics from the University of South Wales. Dr.Annapurny is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, UITM and is actively involved in teaching and research. Area of interest includes Dental Traumatology, Craniofacial Anomalies and Hypnosis.
She currently holds the position of Vice President of the Malaysian Society of Clinical Hypnosis and Editor-in-Chief of Malaysian Journal of Paediatric Dentistry.
