Introduction
Despite being one of the most common complaint or reason for dental visit among patients, many dental practitioners are not confident in managing pain of odontogenic origin, particularly coming from vital teeth or not well versed with the contemporary approach of managing vital pulp.
Although some may argue that dental extraction remain one of the available approach under their sleeve to manage dental pain, with the ageing population reported to have increased over the past decade, it seems incumbent upon dental practitioners to keep abreast with dental advancement in maintaining natural dentition to meet the demand among patients for better quality of life.
The past decade have seen a rapid evolution in scientific update within the field of vital pulp therapy in all corners of the world thanks to particularly the high volume of scientific publication related to vital pulp therapy in the literature supporting the legitimacy of its clinical application.
Unfortunately, despite knowing its many advantages, many clinicians are still not familiar with the why, when and particularly how to go around with vital pulp therapy. This course is designed to help clinicians whether from public service or private practice to get to know the technique and getting started to perform the procedure confidently based on the current scientific evidence of the procedure.

Course Coordinator
Dr Imran Zainal Abidin
Dr Imran Zainal Abidin is an Assistant Professor of Endodontology at the International Islamic University Malaysia dental faculty. He earned his dental degree from Jordan University of Science & Technology Irbid, Jordan and subsequently completed his postgraduate training in the field of Endodontics at King’s College London earning Masters of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontology with distinction in addition to Membership in Endodontology from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.
In addition to his full time academic employment, he also spends clinical time at private dental practice focusing on endodontics and restorative dentistry work. His area of interest in research is primarily on the area concerning vital pulp therapy.
Dr Imran was fortunate to be personally trained under the tutelage of world renowned expert in Vital Pulp Therapy; Professor Nessrin Taha during his undergraduate training as well by Professor Francesco Mannocci during his postgraduate training and was involved as clinician in some VPT and caries removal technique clinical trial. To date, he has performed hundreds of vital pulp therapy procedure at his practice and his experience both in academic world as well as private practice is valuable in guiding clinician to be scientifically sound when performing Vital Pulp Therapy, but also pragmatic to the real day-to-day clinical challenge.
